Alright powerful interwebs, I’m turning to you for help. I’m trying to find an audio clip of the classic punchline music that they used in Laugh-In. Wikipedia describes it as:

A six-note pattern preceding a code-word or punchline to an off-color joke, such as “do-doo-doo-da-do-doo … smack!” or “… family jewels!” (sometimes extended to 18 notes by repeating the GGGDEC pattern two more times before the code-word). This same musical phrase had been used as a “signature” at the end of many pieces played by Spike Jones and his City Slickers.

It’s one of those tunes that if you heard it, you’d instantly recognize it. It’s synonymous with wacky jokes and as such, need it for day to day life. :D If anyone can find a recording of it, let me know and I’ll be forever in your debt.

I have an ever growing collection of t-shirts, and it’s sites like Busted Tees that fuels my addiction. They’ve got some smartass shirts, but my favorites would have to be the JAKKA55, Sparrow and Retarded ones. My obsession with pirates and poker have nothing to do with those choices… nor does me great grammar.

Comedy Central sent me an early screening of Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil, and you know what? It’s really funny. Now, you might be saying to yourself “But Ryan, aren’t all shows on Comedy Central funny? I mean the channel’s name is Comedy Central after all” and I’d say to you “Shut the hell up. Why do I keep writing really really stupid comments that I pretend are coming from my audience.” No, Comedy Central gives a lot of shows a chance, but for every Sarah Silverman Program, there’s a dozen Trucker and T-Bones, Halfway House or American Body Shop. It looks like they’ve definitely got another winner on their hands though.

The premise is a play on all the reality court shows. Lewis Black acts as judge and presides over which of two “blights on humanity” is the real “Root of all Evil”. The first two episodes pitted Oprah against The Catholic Church and Donald Trump against Viagra. Two comedians then argue the case that the entity their representing is the true root of all evil.

I don’t want this to sound like a review or a commercial, it genuinely is a funny ass show and I would expect most of you guys will love it. I was laughing for almost the entire time. Granted I do live with one of the most hateful people in the world who thinks he’s Lewis Black but comes off more like Oscar the Grouch and that adds a whole new level of funny… but it is a funny show and I’ll always take more Lewis Black.

For the past couple of weeks Ken and I have had a running joke going around here saying "Cheaters never win… unless you want to end up in the Baseball Hall of Fame or the Superbowl". Well, last night karma took it’s retribution on the group of players from Foxborough. After having the golden ring of a perfect season within reach, the New York Giants calmly batted it out of the way. Now, I’ll never deny that The Patriots are a good team, and will certainly go down as one of the best ever, but there’s other things that lead to being a great team then your performance on the field. There’s integrity, professionalism, and just plain good-sportsmanship, all of which The Pats lack.

Congratulations have to go out to Eli and the Giants who never lost their cool the entire night, and kept Shula and the ‘72 Dolphins record alive (check out this great Reebok commercial). My "dream scenario" still would have been for Brett Favre to win last night, end the perfect season, then announce his retirement right then and there, but hey, there’s always next year.

…has already passed, and hopefully you didn’t even notice. Blue Monday is normally the fourth Monday of the year, and has been scientifically proven to be the most depressing day of the year. It’s when the holiday buzz for most people has completely worn off, when you end up getting your first couple of bills from the holiday spending, the weather’s shitty, your new year’s resolutions have fallen to pieces, you don’t see a lot of people and those that you do are going through the exact same hell as you.

While I’ve definitely felt that slump in years past, I’ve found myself in such good habits this year that I didn’t even notice. Work has been going great, and we’re getting ready to unleash some real awesomeness at Propeller. I’ve been sticking to my personal resolutions like glue. I’ve lost a few pounds, am eating much better, going to the gym everyday. I haven’t felt this healthy in years. I gave up a couple of personal vices that I thought were going to be brutal, but haven’t looked back on. I’ve found myself developing habits that I enjoy even though I considered them extremely tedious before.

Hopefully everyone else’s years thus far are holding as much potential.

Is that not the lamest title or what? I was trying to think of something more creative, but just said “f*ck it”. It’s not even my birthday anymore, what the hell? This post is off to a fantastic start. It was a very nice birthday weekend. I went out for C.K.’s birthday surprise party on Friday night at El Cholo’s (freaking awesome blue corn enchilada’s), then followed that up with some epic Rock Band playing. Saturday, Deuce and I went for an extremely long walk, I wrote for a while, and went to the beach at midnight. Yesterday, my actual birthday, was the most boring day of the weekend. I got caught up on some little nagging work things and basically just bummed around. Went to the gym, watched some movies, searched for some new apartments online, totally boring.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the nice messages and well-wishes. Thanks Scott for the ducks. You guys all rock.

Well, that didn’t go so well. At least during last year’s BCS Championship Game I was in San Francisco, out eating some fantastic chinese food with the guys from TUAW. This year, I was at home (I got an invite to go to a party down in Hollywood to watch it, but turned it down because I forgot I now have a reliable vehicle), watching LSU play a much better game while taking down the last of the christmas decorations and generally throwing things that shouldn’t be thrown.

Mr. Biro and I were talking within just the past week or so how we wish it was possible to “bottle momentum”; the Buckeyes could have used a big ol swig of that last night at a couple of points. Although disappointing that they lost, it has been fun that the Bucks gotten to the big game two years in a row and have a very very young team, so next year should be a lot of fun. I still think the BCS is a complete mess, a playoff setup would be more rewarding and fun, allowing those longshots and wildcards to have a cinderella-type post-season ala March Madness or the NFL playoffs. What sucks is this season was exactly what the BCS hoped for since day one: every game during those last few weeks of the season “meant something.”

Tangent aside, congrats are in order for both The Ohio State University and LSU, both had fantastic seasons, and one of them played a fantastic game last night.

I hope that the three injured in this accident quickly recover, and I hope all those that had something damaged are compensated, but this is kinda awesome. These are the type of things you daydream about when you’re young. Er… I did at least.
